Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf), in partnership with the Read Education Trust, celebrated World Literacy Day by empowering young learners across three schools in Gqeberha under the theme “Empower Minds, Change Lives”.

Learners from Kayser Ngxwana, St Albans and Khulile Primary Schools showcased the positive impact of IMSAf’s donation of library boxes, which have cultivated a culture of reading and built confidence in public speaking. The celebration featured storytelling and learning-through-play activities designed to strengthen lifelong literacy skills.

The project, launched in 2024, aims to improve literacy levels and foster a love of reading and nurture essential communication skills among primary school learners.

“Education is one of our key focus areas and we have made a commitment to contribute towards improving its quality while helping to close South Africa’s skills gap by aligning learning outcomes with curriculum requirements across key grades,” said IMSAf’s Executive Vice President for Corporate Services, Celestin Ndhlovu. “To ensure we drive a holistic approach, we have extended our efforts to empowering educators through comprehensive training and ongoing support, laying a strong foundation for long-term educational success and we are proud of the improvement rate we have witnessed in our partner schools since the inception of the project in 2024,” added Ndhlovu.

Through ongoing collaboration with the Department of Basic Education, education-focused NGOs, and school leadership, IMSAf continues to leverage partnerships that bridge learning gaps and prepare learners for a rapidly changing world. The World Literacy Day celebration reinforces this commitment, ensuring that children are not only able to read, but also to dream and thrive.

The initiative forms part of IMSAf’s broader Education Pillar, which focuses on creating sustainable opportunities for learning and development. From upgrading school infrastructure and introducing digital literacy initiatives, to championing coding, robotics, and STEM-related programmes, IMSAf is committed to addressing educational challenges that impact South Africa’s youth.
