The 12th edition of the Berlin November delivered a standout moment for Eastern Cape horseracing and for owner and trainer Lopez Magongo. His horse, Isivumelwano, ridden by jockey Sandile Xoza, surged ahead to secure a memorable win, marking a major milestone in Magongo’s growing career. This victory also marks the fourth consecutive year that Lopez has taken first place at the Berlin November, a remarkable achievement in the sport. For Lopez, the achievement is the latest chapter in a journey that began far from the bright lights of major racing events.

Raised in the rural Eastern Cape, he grew up around horses long before horseracing became a profession. The sport was a family calling, shaped by his father’s deep involvement and the hours spent learning the discipline, resilience and instinct required to succeed.

That legacy extended beyond the stables. Lopez remembers his father depending on an Isuzu bakkie to transport horses, equipment and family across demanding terrain. This was a practical necessity in rural life, and a tradition that continues today.

Now competing at events across South Africa and neighbouring countries, Lopez often travels long distances towing horses that weigh between 400 and 600 kilograms. For him, a dependable vehicle is not optional; it is essential.

His Isuzu bakkie delivers exactly what the work demands: stability on unpredictable roads, strength for heavy towing and the long-haul reliability that keeps his racing operations moving. Whether he’s preparing for a major race or navigating remote areas, the vehicle remains a constant part of his professional rhythm.

The Berlin November win reflects more than a single race. It represents years of dedication, family heritage and the determination to excel in a highly competitive sport. It also highlights the everyday connection between Lopez’s passion and the tools that support it, including the vehicle that has been part of his journey from childhood to championship success.

Isuzu congratulates Lopez Magongo, jockey Sandile Xoza and the entire Isivumelwano team on their outstanding Berlin November triumph.

A powerful legacy, still moving forward.
